H.E.R.D Horse Empowered Reading Development
Immerse yourself in a four-day experiential learning environment where literacy and reading come to life in a Western setting. Through hands-on activities and interactions with horses, participants will not only develop their reading skills, but also cultivate a deeper appreciation for the world of literature.
The program is offered at 2 levels: Emerging Readers and Developing Readers. Please use this intake form to help determine the best fit for your child:

Programs take place at Hope Rides Ranch in Mayer, MN. A follow up email will be sent after registration with detailed information on location, etc.
---------------
Emerging Readers Grades K-1
Children know some letters and sounds of the alphabet. They are beginning to notice words around them (ex. McDonalds, Target, STOP) and are becoming interested in “reading” along with familiar books. Some children may recognize common words in books and around the home like: mom, dad, dog, go, like, I, the, cat, am, and family names.

Developing Readers Grades 1-3
Children know letters and sounds of the alphabet. They recognize many simple, easily recognizable words (hat, big, shop, home, frog) and many sight words (again, have, from, who, where, these). Children can read books like Cat In The Hat, Fly Guy, Elephant and Piggie, and simple rhyming books. They are beginning to read longer words and books with fewer pictures.
